Australian Drafting & Design is seeking an experienced Piping Designer / Drafter with strong AutoCAD Plant 3D experience to join a Sydney-based project team.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked on industrial, process, steam, manufacturing, utilities, chemical, food processing, oil & gas or similar piping projects.

This is not a general mechanical drafting position. We are looking for someone who understands piping systems and plant layouts and can confidently work within an existing Plant 3D project environment.

The Role

You will work closely with engineers and project personnel to develop and update piping and process documentation using AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Typical responsibilities will include:

• Developing and modifying 3D piping models in AutoCAD Plant 3D
• Producing piping layouts, plans, sections and details
• Producing and updating P&IDs
• Generating and checking piping isometrics
• Preparing general arrangements and equipment layouts
• Routing process, utility and steam piping
• Working from engineering mark-ups, P&IDs and existing plant information
• Coordinating piping with equipment, structures and other disciplines
• Updating existing models and drawings as project designs develop
• Producing accurate construction and fabrication documentation
• Working with engineers to resolve piping and layout issues

What We Are Looking For

To be successful, you should have practical Plant 3D piping experience, rather than general AutoCAD experience alone.

Essential:

• Strong hands-on experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D
• Previous experience as a Piping Designer, Piping Drafter, Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Drafter
• Demonstrated experience producing 3D piping models
• Experience with P&IDs, piping layouts and isometric drawings
• Understanding of piping components including valves, flanges, fittings, equipment connections and pipe supports
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and mark-ups
• Good understanding of industrial/process piping systems
• Ability to work accurately with limited supervision
• Experience with steam systems, process piping, utilities, brownfield facilities or operating industrial plants will be highly regarded.
• Experience with Navisworks, point clouds, laser scan data, Plant 3D specifications/catalogues or multidisciplinary model coordination would also be advantageous.

The Opportunity

The position is Sydney based and is suited to someone who enjoys hands-on piping design and drafting rather than purely administrative or supervisory work.

A competitive hourly rate of $65–$85 per hour will be offered depending on capability and relevant experience.
